As electric vehicle (EV) demand skyrockets, the U.S. is accelerating domestic mineral processing to secure supply chains for critical battery components such as lithium, graphite, cobalt, and nickel. U.S. demand for these minerals is projected to be 23 times higher by 2035 compared to 2021 levels. Domestic ventures are pioneering environmentally-friendly lithium extraction with support form major energy companies and federal funding. Meanwhile, large scale U.S. graphite facilities are slated to ramp up commercial production by the early 2030's. Recycling efforts further strengthen circular supply chains, reclaiming critical metals and reducing dependence on foreign sources.
